Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez replied to netizens asking his wife, Leyte Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez, what her vote was on the proposed P1,000 budget of Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Congress approved the CHR budget cut after 119 members voted for it in deliberations held Tuesday, September 12. Only 32 members voted against it.
There is still no record of the complete list of lawmakers who approved CHR’s laughable budget as there was no head count, which is required only when the initial viva voce vote of “aye” or “nay” is deemed inconclusive.
However, in unofficial lists received by reporters, Lucy's name was neither included in those who voted for nor against the budget cut.
As expected, netizens are curious to know how the representative of the 4th District of Leyte voted on the proposed CHR budget.
Lucy's Instagram was flooded with questions from her followers, but the 42-year-old politician-TV personality has remained mum.
Instead of Lucy, her husband Richard replied on her behalf.
The 51-year-old Ormoc City mayor said, “The congressmen voted for what is good for their own districts.
“That is why they are also called representatives, they represent their own districts.”
He also asked the netizens: “Ano ba ang [distrito] nyo? Ano ba ang pinili ng congressman nyo?
“Sana tumakbo na din kayo para yung ingay nyo sa social media dun nyo dalhin sa kongreso.”
Some netizens found Richard's reply off-putting.
His other reply, however, remains in it.
Screenshots of these comments were also quickly shared by some netizens on social media.
