Kian delos Santos, a 17-year old student was killed on August 16 after allegedly shooting it out with policemen during a drug bust in their community, in Libis Baisa, Barangay 160, Caloocan City. However, a CCTV footage showed delos Santos being manhandled and dragged by the police from one alley to another, past a basketball court and into a dead end corner before he was found dead.
Today, August 26, Kian was buried at the La Loma Cemetery where hundreds joined the funeral procession. A burial mass was held at the Sta. Quiteria Parish in Caloocan City. During the mass, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David compared Kian’s death to Jesus Christ death who was also arrested and dragged 2000 years ago, that Kian was helpless just like Our Lord Jesus Christ, while the eleventh grader was arrested by authorities and killed under President Duterte’s war on drugs.
In his sermon, the Bishop said that Kian’s parents, Zaldy at Lorenza Delos Santos were not alone. He also said that may Kian’s death should serve a lesson to the government that the killings be stopped and may Kian be the last victim.
Bishop David also pointed out verses in a Bible, John 3:16 which says ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.’
