"Pera lang naman po yun pwede ko pa pong kitain ulit" - Not your Ordinary Good Samaritan Story

"Pera lang naman po yun pwede ko pa pong kitain ulit" - Not your Ordinary Good Samaritan Story

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

We hear stories of people being good samaritans and making out of their way to extend a helping hand to others. Such stories give us hope and restore our faith in humanity, especially on those times we lose hope.

This is one story that proves we can still count on other people - complete strangers, in fact in times of terrible need, and how they just seem to come out of nowhere when we least expect it, like fallen angels sent from up above.

A Facebook post of a certain Aiza Montablan. As her story goes, she went to St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, to accompany her ailing grandmother for a check-up.

Coming from San Pablo Laguna, they had just enough cash on them, to cover their fare expenses and doctor’s consultation fee.

As Aiza recounted it, the doctor advised her grandmother to immediately undergo laboratory tests, something they could not clearly afford at that time, due to lack of money. She shared how their money was only Php1,500.00, and Php500.00 of which was allotted for the consultation fee. The remaining amount was for the transportation fare. Laboratory fees were expected to be at Php1,836.00. Clearly, they came up short handed.

Upon knowing about their difficulty, Rhona Laurel Arcillas, a registration staff at the hospital, approached them and took out Php1,000 from her own pocket. Handed it to them on her own free will, without any doubts and second-thoughts.

In an interview with Pep,

Rhona had this to say,

"Kasi alam ko din po yung pakiramdam na nagigipit dahil nararanasan ko din po yun. Kaya kung meron man po akong maitutulong para po makabawas sa nararamdaman at isipin nila.

"Especially sa kagaya po niya may sakit at matanda na, kaya mas ginusto ko po na tulungan siya... Pera lang naman po yun pwede ko pa pong kitain ulit."
